Harwood Art Center, "Stripped," Albuquerque, NM, August 2016

Stripped presents artist Juliana Coles' unedited and unbound sketchbooks in a liminal installation inspired by a recent residency in Morocco. Courageously exposing the viewer to the art making process by asserting it as the work itself, Stripped deliberately eschews an art paradigm that privileges product over process. Stripped lays bare Arthood - the quality or condition of being an artist - and reclaims its value by manifesting internal vision through outward expression.
